But today, I’m saying goodbye to one of my most favourite tv characters of all time.
16 years ago, I came across this character on my tv screen. Gotta admit that I wasnt totally fond of him. Mainly because he’s a douche and an ass. But as seasons went by, he’s slowly growing on me. I can feel his life journey. I can feel the pain that he felt, the joy that he had.
Most people didnt like the ending that they’ve written for Alex Karev. It’s so out of character to just left his wife behind to stay with his ex wife. Mainly because Izzie left him and he got so mad at her which led to their divorce almost what? 10 years ago. He got Izzied but then, he did the exact same thing to Jo.
Some people thought that it didnt make any sense. Suddenly 2 kids popped out out of nowhere and just like that, Alex stayed with them. But, for me (and yes I’m a lil bit bias over here), Alex fell in love with Izzie. And he fell for her hard. On the earlier seasons, we could see how much he loved (or loves) her. The scene where he picked her up after Danny’s death, the scene where he almost lost Izzie to cancer. Though they’ve been through some shits, you cannot tell me that Alex never loved Izzie.
Even after he’s with Jo, there was a moment where he told Jo about what he thought Izzie’s life looks like right now. He gave the best imagination about Izzie’s life because maybe he never fell out of love with Izzie. Kids, house which smells like cookies, he definitely wished the very best for Izzie even after all the things she’s done to him. So maybe, when they catch up, they realised that the sparks never left them. It’s always there. It’s just that they’ve not been in contact to know it.
I personaly love the ending that they gave to Alex, though I’m conflicted as this hurts Jo very much. But, after all the storms that Alex has been through, I just want to see him happy. And even though it didnt make much sense for some, to see him finally be a father to twins who bake, finally be a partner to his first love, and still be a doctor, because that’s the job that he loves doing, is maybe enough for me.
So, goodbye dr. Alex Karev. It’s been a fun ride. I hope this wont be the last time we see you or hear about you. I wish you and your new family the very best, because you deserve it after all these 16 years.
